Pillory of S. Martinho de Mouros

Description

Situated in the central square of the medieval village of São Martinho de Mouros, the pillory, symbol of municipal autonomy, is located next to the former town hall, today a civic centre.
The pillory was built on a foundation consisting of a raised platform supporting four octagonal steps and a high eight faces column with a capitel showing the following elements: the five shields of the Portuguese coat of arms, the date 1601 (probable year of construction) and a Maltese Cross.
