Ponte de Luriz (Luriz Bridge)

Valongo
Description

It is a roman bridge built in stone, being reconstructed in the medieval age. It has an easel platform based on three unequal arches (two round archesboard, and one pointed arch in the center). It has a triangular cutwater between the two round arches as well as stone guards. There is a small staircase that allows access to the river. It has the popular name of Ponte da Morte (Dead Bridge) because of its old phonetic name: Ponte Norte. The road from Valongo to Penafiel passed over it.
