The S. Pedro de Rates albergue was the first lodgings in Portrugal, in modern days, to be set up exclusively for pilgrims in their way to Santiago de Compostela. Since its inauguration on 25 July 2004, a group of volunteers have helped provide lodging to pilgrims.
