Ponte da Barca
Description
The Hydro-electric Station of Paradamonte

The hydroelectric station was built in the early XX century and started working in 1922, being responsible a Portuguese/Spanish consortium. This station supplied electrical energy to the towns of Braga, Porto and Gaia, contributing for urban and industrial development in the north Portugal. It was replaced by the present dam of Alto Lindoso and it is owned by EDP. It is the largest industrial archeology example in the county. In Paradamonte, in the parish of Britelo, it is still possible to see some infrastructures of buildings, such as residences, a school, a health clinic, a holiday camp and even a theater, from the period of this construction.
